Alpine Valley is one of the largest outdoor amphitheatres in the country. The venue is just outside the town of East Troy, in southeastern area of Wisconsin. The location helps to draw a large regional crowd. Because of its proximity to cities such as Madison, Milwaukee, Rockford and Chicago, the fans don't have far to drive.
Alpine Valley is a seasonal venue and is often considered as an option for musical acts that cannot book large Milwaukee venues due to schedule conflicts. The stage is large enough for any major star, but the outdoor nature limits some pyrotechnics.
Alpine Valley was considered the largest outdoor amphitheater until 1993 when the San Manuel Amphitheater was built in California. Built in 1977, the venue includes a 7,500-seat pavilion under a wooden roof, and an expansive lawn. The entire theater capacity stands at a 37,000 people.
The venue is located in a natural valley, providing acoustics that has made Alpine Valley a favorite stop for popular artists such as Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Rush and Phish. Along with great acoustics, comes a lively crowd with many concertgoers tail gaiting and partying in the parking lot prior to the show. When ticket holders cannot find a place to park in the lot, they are directed to nearby farm fields.
