The Wisconsin Badger football program started way back in 1989. Shortly after the first Badger team took the field, the Big Ten conference formed. In the first ten years of the Big Ten, Wisconsin won the title no less than three times. They found their rival in the University of Minnesota.
At the turn of the century, Wisconsin Badger fans watched the decline of their team. It took nearly forty years for the team to come back into power. In 1942, the team won enough games to be ranked in the top ten. Defeating the best-ranked team in college football that same year helped to solidify that lofty rank.
Their decline came once again, and it lasted thirty years. Barry Alverez brought the team back to glory. They made three Rose Bowl appearances while he led the team. Barry Alverez took the job of athletic director, and Bret Bielema took over in 2005. A Wisconsin Badger ticket fast became a popular item.
A look back in the Badger history books reveals that Wisconsin has played in 20 bowl games. They have a .500 win loss record in bowl appearances. Of those ten losses, three were at the Rose Bowl. They twice played the Capital One Bowl, winning both times. In their three trips to the Outback Bowl, they came away as losers every time.
What Wisconsin Badger fans remember best is the 1994 win in Pasadena. That Rose Bowl victory came after a ten-year bowl drought. Badger boosters flooded Pasadena that year. Barry Alverez led his team to seven bowl victories in nine trips. Bret Bielema has two Capital One victories to his name.
