More Info
Ben Oglivie was part of the pennant winning 1982 Milwaukee Brewers. That year, he hit 34 home runs, and had 102 RBI’s. Oglivie came into the majors in 1971, playing for the Boston Red Sox.
His best seasons were certainly as a Brewer. Born in Panama, Ben holds title as first non-American born player to have the most home runs in the AL. His lifetime average of .273 is workmanlike, and his 235 home runs put him in the top 500 of all time.
He made the All Star Team for three consecutive years, representing the Brewers. He retired from MLB as a Milwaukee Brewer, but went on to try his luck in Japan. He played for the Buffaloes for two seasons, and had an inspiration to come back to the major league level.
That dream was not to be, and he is now a hitting coach in Montgomery AL.
