More Info
With 942 Major League strikeouts through the 2006 season, Ben Sheets is a marquee player for the Milwaukee Brewers. His incredible history as a three-time Olympic starter, includes allowing just one run in 22 innings of play, shutting out Japan for seven innings on just four hits in his first start and pitching a incredible three-hit, complete game shutout against Cuba to win the Gold Medal. Others may have stayed to soak in the Olympics longer, but Ben Sheets was in Milwaukee the day after the win to attend the final game in County Stadium.

Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1999, Sheets made his Major League debut in April 2001. Sheets’ best known pitches are his four-seam fastball, a sharp breaking curveball and his changeup. He has maintained an impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio through his career. Ben Sheets opened the 2007 Milwaukee Brewers season at Miller Park for the fifth time after starting the 2006 season on the disabled list, only to return to pitch 3 starts, and then return to the DL with shoulder tendonitis.

On a personal note, Sheets is married and has one son and owns a stake in the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League. Ben Sheets was born in Baton Rouge, LA. Attending both high school and college in Louisiana, Sheets enjoys many things “southern”, namely the food! While pitching for Northeast Louisiana University against Louisiana Tech, Ben Sheets notes the greatest amateur baseball moment, striking out 20 Tech batters.

Ben Sheet’s 2007 injury report: Right groin strain in April, blister on middle finger in May, sprained middle finger in July, tight left hamstring in Septmeber. On the batting side, Ben Sheets managed a whopping .067 batting average during his 45 at bats.

For 2008 Ben Sheets hopes to keep his health in top shape. His spent his off-season conditioning his body. Ben chalks it up more to bad luck over not having the strength to be a major league pitcher. As for the 2008 pre season, Ben had some rough outings. He claims that his best year in the majors came after one of his worst spring training seasons. Ben Sheets did not sign with Milwaukee for 2009. He awaits the results of his surgery.
