Carlos Villanueva
Carlos Villanueva made his Major League debut in May 2006 with the Milwaukee Brewers, after good performances at Double-A Huntsville. He had a scoreless inning in relief. Villanueva was acquired from the San Francisco Giants in 2004. His record stands at 2-2, 39 strikeouts, and a 3.69 ERA heading in to the 2007 season. Carlos Villanueva has been highly-touted and will be depended on for middle and long-relief for the Milwaukee Brewers. It has been said that his arm-speed surprises some hitters and that he has the confidence to use it at any time in the count. In the 2005 off-season, Villanueva taught himself the changeup, finally settling on a grip that gave him the backspin he was looking for. This is no his self-proclaimed “best pitch”. As of the 2007 season, Carlos Villanueva has a five-pitch arsenal he is happy with. He ended the 2007 season with 99 strikeouts, and an ERA of 3.94. Carlos Villanueva was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, he's single, and attended the Americas Bi-cultural School where he played both baseball and basketball. During the 2007 season, Villanueva’s worst month was August. His ERA reached a lofty 10.32. Flip flopping for September he managed a 1.99 ERA. Villanueva was powerful when starting games last season. Carlos signed a one year deal for 2008. He managed 17 strikeouts prior to the start of the 2008 regular season. That record seemed to solidify his spot in the rotation. Early in the 2008 season, Villanueva injured his knee while trying to make a play at first base. He sat out the entire regular season. In 2009, Villanueva had a very eventful season to say the least. His poor performance led to teammate Todd Coffey to take most of the playing time Villanueva would have had, leaving him mostly as a fill-in starter. His rollercoaster season was detrimental to both the team and the season ended on a frustrated note for him. We hope to see better things from him in 2010. © 2010 MilwaukeeBrewersTicket.net Terms of Service |
