Dale Sveum
Dale Sveum spent five months of this year as the third base coach for the Milwaukee Brewers. Before that time, Dale was a double A manager for the Pirates. He was highly regarded as a manager early in this decade, and his chance came up during an unusual late season firing of Ned Yost. Sveum was picked to head a faltering Brewers squad that had lost a 5.5 game lead in the 2008 wild card race. With less than one month to play, Sveum led the Milwaukee Brewers back, and the Crew took back the wild card slot for the NL Central. Prior to his coaching days, Sveum was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1982. He played with the Brewers until 1991, when he went on to play for the Phillies. He spent time with six other teams before calling it a career. Three years after hanging up the cleats, Dale started coaching in the minor leagues. He was third base coach in 2004, for the World Series winning Boston Redsox. Dale had only twelve games to get the Brewers back into playoff contention. The team went 7-5, and with the help of the New York Mets losses, Milwaukee made the playoffs for the first time in 26 years. It is unlikely that Milwaukee will keep Sveum on as manager for 2009. If that were to be the case, Dale Sveum would like to get the team to focus on manufacturing runs. The Brewers relied on the long ball too much, according to Dale. We Brewers fans will have to wait until the end of the MLB playoffs to see what coaching changes will occur for the ball club. © 2010 MilwaukeeBrewersTicket.net Terms of Service |
