More Info
Francisco Cordero was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and joined the Milwaukee Brewers late in the 2006 season. Francisco Cordero was acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers from the Texas Rangers, along with Kevin Mench, Laynce Nix and Minor Leaguer Julian Cordero, in exchange for then Milwaukee Brewers players, Carlos Lee and Nelson Cruz. Initially, Cordero was vocal about his feelings about the Texas Rangers letting him go, but quickly said that he was happy to have landed with the Milwaukee Brewers.

With 8 years Major League playing experience, Cordero was awarded fellow pitcher Derrick Turnbow’s closing job with the Milwaukee Brewers. Francisco Cordero went 16 for 16 in save opportunities, but wasn’t able to make it 18 for 18 with losses to Chicago and St. Louis. In August 2006, Cordero was named Milwaukee Brewers Pitcher of the Month. Francisco Cordero has 108 saves since the 2004 season, ranking fifth in the major leagues.

Cordero seemed to lose his pitching threat late in the Brewers 2007 season. For a while, it seemed that the Brewer's opponents were figuring him out.

He managed 44 saves in 2007, with 86 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.98. His nickname was CoCo for the time Cordero played in Milwaukee. Francisco now plays for the Reds.
