Jeff Suppan
Jeff Suppan, current right-handed pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers, made his Major League debut in 1995 for the Boston Red Sox. He then went on to play for the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Kansas City Royals, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the St. Louis Cardinals. When playing with the Cardinals, Suppan helped lead the team to the World Series in 2004 and 2006. Through the 2006 season, Oklahoma City native, Jeff Suppan has a 106-101 record, a 4.60 ERA average and has delivered 1,048 strikeouts and was named the MVP of the National League Championship Series is 2006. Appropriately nicknamed “Soup”, Jeff Suppan, in the 2006 off-season, signed a four-year, $42 million contract to play for the Milwaukee Brewers, after being acquired as a free agent. This is the richest deal in Milwaukee Brewers history. Active in the community, Suppan is on his high school’s Board of Directors, donates $50 for each strikeout to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, and gives time and energy to Baseballers Against Drugs. Alongside his wife, Jeff also is a restaurateur, with one location of Soup’s Grill on Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles. Suppan ended the 2007 season with an ERA of 4.62 and 114 strikeouts. When Jeff Suppan manages to play over 30 games in any single season, his strikeout numbers are consistently above 100. With 61 at bats in 2007, Suppan managed an on-base percentage of .172. Suppan is known to wear a Hawiian shirt on the days he is scheduled to pitch for the Milwaukee Brewers. In 2008, Jeff Suppan finished with a record of 10-10. His ERA was 4.96 and he had 90 strikeouts. He pitched in 177 innings. He gave up 30 home runs, 12 more than 2007. Suppan finished the 2009 season with a 7-12 record and a 5.29 ERA. This ERA was the 5th worst in the national league among starts and Suppan's highest since a 5.32 in 2002. Suppan was on the disabled list for a month due to an oblique strain. In his last 37 innings, Suppan allowed 23 earned runs on 42 hits and 13 walks. He achieved 30 starts for the 11th consecutive season.
