Son of former major leaguer Cecil Fielder, Prince Fielder is the starting first baseman for the Milwaukee Brewers. Chosen in the first round of the 2002 amateur draft, power-hitter Fielder made his Major league debut in 2005He made his Major League debut

A California native, Prince Fielder has two children with his wife Chanel.

With his first full season start coming with the beginning of the 2006 season, Fielder became an early favorite for National League Rookie of the Year. He led the Milwaukee Brewers in games played (157), hits (154) and at-bats (569) in the 2006 season. He broke Milwaukee Brewers’ Greg Vaughn rookie home run record and B.J. Surhoff RBI record, with 28 home runs and 81 RBIs. Prince Fielder had three 2-homerun games one each during the months of April, May and June 2006.

On Mother’s Day 2006, 50 hitters used a pink bat to benefit the Breast Cancer Foundation, Fielder was one of them.

As the Brewers’ successful 2007 season wore on, Prince Fielder was subject to roster moves that may have had a negative effect on his batting threat. Ned Yost put Fielder in front of Ryan Braun for a time. That was a controversial move in the eyes of the armchair coaches of Milwaukee. Prince Fielder’s powerful bat is better served when runners are on base, and Braun was usually that runner. The roster change was short enough to keep the big bat of Fielder as a threat up to the end of the season. Prince had an award-winning season, including the National League Player’s Choice pick for 2007.

As the 2008 Milwaukee Brewers season starts, Prince Fielder made it known that he was hoping for better pay. Fielder is earning just under $700,000 while signing a one year deal. The Brewers hope to come to an agreement with Prince.

Prince Fielder excelled in 2009. As for his numbers, Fielder had 46 home runs, batted in 141 runs, hit 35 doubles, and struck out 138 times. He ended this season with a batting average of .299. This year was his best so far, with a career high .602 slugging average. He just seemed to wait for the right pitches. That fact is backed up by owning the second best on-base percentage in the league. He cut his errors at first base by 10, when compared to last season. Cecil Cooper said goodbye to his Brewers RBI record when Fielder finished the season.

Prince Fielder also won the All-Star Home Run Derby for 2009, and that certainly raised his profile. On the last day of the regular season, Fielder hit two home runs from his three hits, and took a walk that that day. Fielder didn’t give up, despite the fact that the Milwaukee Brewers were out of the playoff hunt.
