More Info
Salomon Torres spent the past five years with the Pittsburgh Pirates before signing on with the Milwaukee Brewers. Torres has the modern record for the most pitching appearances in the Majors. After the 2007 All Star game he managed an ERA of 1.22. His career ERA is 4.39.
In 1993 Torres, a Giant at that time was known for blowing the last game of the season, ultimately dashing the hopes of a post-season slot. He is booed every time he returns to San Francisco, but Torres takes it in stride. Saloman was partly responsible for the famous picture of Sammy Sosa’s helmet “exploding” from one of his wild pitches.
In 2008, Salomon had 28 saves, piched 80 innings, 51 strikeouts, and gave up only six home runs. He was a featured closer when Eric Gagne failed to provide Milwaukee with solid pitching. At the end of the 2008 season, Torres retired from baseball.
