Tony Gwynn
Son of the former San Diego Padre and future hall-of-famer Tony Gwynn, Tony Gwynn Jr. is an outfielder for the Milwaukee Brewers. Gwynn made his Major League debut un July 2006 and in an interesting twist of fate had his first major league hit on the same day (24 years later) as his Father’s first major league hit! And they were both doubles! As the 2006 season was coming to an end, Gwynn racked up more playing time, as he replaced Brady Clark in the Brewers’ lineup. In total, Gwynn played in 32 games for the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2006 season, including 14 starts in center field. Prior to reaching the major leagues, Gwynn attended San Diego State University where he played baseball and was a First Team All-American in 2003. Tony Gwynn Jr. was married in La Jolla, CA in November 2006. Tony Gwynn Jr. was sent back down to triple A Nashville, where he stayed until called up to replace the injured Bill Hall on July 6th, 2007. His 4-24 slump was overlooked when they called him up. He went on to play a total of 69 games for the Brewers during the 2007 season. He finished the season with a .271 average. Tony is the right field starter for the Brewers 2008 season. Consistent batting will keep Gwynn in the Brewers line up. Having been brought up three times from the minors in 2007 alone, it’s safe to say that Tony Gwynn Jr. knows what he needs to do in order to keep playing in the majors. His switch-hitting, pinch running, and desire to reach base at any cost makes Tony Gwynn Jr. a fun player to watch. © 2010 MilwaukeeBrewersTicket.net Terms of Service |
